StuartXchange is more than 27 years old, online since 1998, growing from a fledging plant site to a warehouse of varied interests and information. Its centerpiece is the compilation of Medicinal Plants in the Philippines, to date, more than 1,750 of native, introduced, and naturalized plants. It has been virtually a one-man endeavor.
A non-profit site since inception, the site has been kept free of the distracting clutter and sometimes miasmal commerce of online advertisements.
With the ever-increasing number of plants, many yet waiting to be found and added, and the increasingly daunting task of updating every plant for new medicinal studies, the website would benefit with assistance on research, updates, graphics, photographs, and maintenance.
Graphics and Images
Every new plant page requires browsing through and choosing from hundreds of photographs uploaded by plant enthusiasts into plant-dedicated sites with their varying degrees of usability, from creative commons sharing, public domain use, or non-commercial-use restrictions.
While many of the graphics and images are mine, an increasing number -- perhaps, now a majority -- are from Creative Commons and other medicinal plant-dedicated sites.
Indeed, without these images and the culture of sharing, the plant pages will be drab and barren landscapes of text and information.
It is firstly them - the creative commoners, plant photographers, bloggers, and enthusiasts who have shared their images - that spurred me into finally doing a Donation Page. But beyond the photographs, a donation largesse can help make possible crowdsourcing for the search for new plants, for the updating of the materia medica, and for ways to ensure the site and the compilation's relevance and continued availability.
Thank you. |
